THIS STORE SOLD ME A FAKE IPHONE. PLEASE DO NOT BUY FROM HERE. What happened was truly insane, and I’m only sharing it now (over a year later) because people need to know how Best Buy in Florida City operates. I went in to buy an iPhone and spoke with an associate named Henso. I told him exactly which model I wanted, down to the color, and said I’d return the next day to purchase it. I came back, paid with store credit, and tried turning it on at the register, but it wouldn’t power on. The cashier said it had probably been in storage and just needed to charge. That made sense at the time, so I left for school and didn’t touch the phone again until I got home around 7 PM. When I finally tried charging it, nothing. I waited over 30 minutes and still, it wouldn’t turn on. I rushed back to Best Buy before closing and handed it to Geek Squad. They took it to the back, and when they returned, I was shocked. The girl brought out the phone opened up and said there was nothing inside. Just hot glue. She said it was a fake iPhone, like a display phone, and started treating me like I was trying to scam them. No questions, no understanding, just accusations. I broke down crying because I was genuinely confused. I had bought the phone that same morning. The manager, Danny, came over. I asked if they could help, but since the store was about to close, he said I’d have to come back the next day. I asked if they wanted to keep the phone or what I should do, and he said I could take it home since I was on camera at Geek Squad explaining the issue. He said the footage would back me up, so I left, still unsure of what was going on. When I came back the next day, I had to deal with Angel, another manager with one of the nastiest attitudes I’ve ever encountered. My mom and I came in asking about the phone, and my mom started explaining the situation. He brushed us off, talked over her, kept cutting her off, and made it clear he didn’t believe us. He basically accused us of lying and stealing, saying the iPhone with the serial number from my box conveniently activated right after I left the store. He kept saying there was nothing to do. It was easy for him to act like it wasn’t a big deal because it wasn’t his money on the line. He had no empathy and told us to file a police report, knowing that wouldn’t help. We tried calling Best Buy corporate, but it was nearly impossible to get through, and when we did, the call dropped. Eventually, Danny called and said they traced the iPhone and found it had been returned before and likely swapped out by someone else. He told us to come back and he’d take care of it. We finally got a replacement, but it took two days of stress, humiliation, and being treated like criminals. They didn’t have the model I originally bought in stock, so they sent me to Best Buy West Kendall to pick it up. The difference was night and day. The Geek Squad manager there was kind, understanding, and said the Florida City team handled it terribly. He even said it made no sense that someone would try to scam them using their real Best Buy account with their full name, address, and info attached to the purchase. I genuinely believe this could’ve been an inside job. I had told an employee the exact model, color, and storage the day before, and somehow that exact phone was the one tampered with. Then the serial number from the box activated right after I left the store. It doesn’t feel like a coincidence, especially when they were so quick to blame me instead of investigating. Since then, I’ve only shopped at Best Buy Kendall. They treat you with respect, and I’ve never had an issue. As for the Florida City location, between the fake phone, the accusations, and the vile attitude from people like Angel, I wouldn’t wish that experience on anyone. Please, do yourself a favor and shop literally anywhere else.
