Disappointed and Dismissed at Best Buy I visited this Best Buy location this evening to check out the newest “Paper Write” tablet. The store wasn’t busy, yet it took several minutes to even find an associate. Most employees were scattered around, chatting with each other—not with customers. When an associate finally approached me, he asked if I needed help, then simply pointed in the general direction of the tablets. That was the extent of his assistance. I ended up finding them on my own. After browsing, I approached another pair of employees to ask about the most affordable Paper Write in stock. Luna, a younger male associate with dreadlocks, responded, “Oh, I’m so sorry ma’am, those are quite expensive—starting around $400 and going up from there.” He didn’t bother to show me any options or ask follow-up questions. His tone felt dismissive, and frankly, I felt profiled. Just because I was dressed casually in my Saturday lounge clothes doesn’t mean I’m not a serious customer. I’m a professional, and I was ready to make a purchase tonight. But the lack of effort, courtesy, and customer care made me walk out instead. If Best Buy wants to improve its customer experience, I’d suggest a few things: hold weekly team meetings to reinforce service standards, offer comment cards so customers can provide feedback on associates, and encourage staff to stay engaged—whether that means tidying up the store or learning more about the products they sell. When employees are standing around during slow hours, that’s a missed opportunity to build knowledge and earn trust. In today’s retail climate, customer service should be a priority—not an afterthought. When employees act like they don’t care, companies lose loyal customers. I won’t be returning to this location, and I’m reconsidering shopping with Best Buy altogether. Probably for the best. Bye.
