BBY Giving Away $1,000 Scholarships to 1,000 Students 01/07/2010

Applications are being accepted for the Best Buy @15 Scholarship program, which will award 1,000 scholarships of $1,000 each to students in grades 9 through 12 living in the U.S. or Puerto Rico who plan to enter a full-time undergraduate course of study upon high school graduation. This is great news for all students in your area, especially since Best Buy employees and their relatives are eligible for the scholarship.

The deadline for scholarship applications is Feb. 15, 2010. Winners will be announced on at15.com on May 14, 2010.

How do you qualify?
@15 is looking students with strong grades who also have a history of volunteerism in their schools/communities or who have a work history. Next, students must have plans to attend a college, university or technical school in the fall immediately following their high school graduation. Students in grades 9 through 12 from private, public, alternative or home schools are eligible to apply. Grants are a one-time award, so if a student was a winner in past years, they would not be eligible to apply again. However, if a student isn’t selected as a winner, they’re welcome to apply for the scholarship in subsequent years.

Applying is free and easy
The application process is handled entirely online and is only available to teen members of at15.com. Membership is free and it’s easy to apply.

Applying earns points
Members of at15.com have benefits available to them and each applicant earns points they can use once a quarter to vote on which non-profit organizations will receive charitable dollars from the @15 Fund. Applicants receive 300 points just for signing onto the site and a whopping 1,500 points if they apply for the scholarship prior to Feb. 1, 2010.

Spread the word
Posters announcing the scholarship have been mailed to each school in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Be sure to share the news about this Best Buy @15 Scholarship opportunity with teens, parents, teachers and other customers. It’s easy to apply. Your local Best Buy is strengthening our partnership with Binder Park zoo in Battle Creek. We had the privilege to donate a 32″ TV/DVD for the new educational African Zuri exhibit. Best Buy values families and our environment. National Bring your son/daughter to work day on April 21, 2009 was celebrated at our store with employees bringing their children to see where mom and day work. They were filled with excitement and wonder. After the morning of exploring mom and dad’s work place the families were treated to McDonald’s before going to the Binder Park Zoo to give back to our planet and community. The children had a wonderful time planting the new flowering bushes and then wandered the Binder Park Zoo with mom and dad. It was a wonderful day for all.
