I came to the Colonial Heights, VA Best Buy with a friend to potentially purchase a new dishwasher.. I spent over an hour talking with 2 different salesmen. The first left to go talk to another customer. The second was rude.. they seemed focused on a sale. They said “I’ve spent over 20 minutes telling you why this is the best dishwasher, I have other customers waiting, are we going to ring this up?” And they kept asking if I’m just browsing. My friends current dishwasher leaves a lot of streaks on his glassware which is a serious annoyance to him. The salesman told him “the reason your glassware is streaky is that you need to run the dishwasher with a splash of pure bleach on the hottest setting once a week.” And they said “that activates the internal water softener.” He went on to say “Hard water is causing the streaks.” I told him internal water softener is a feature that uses salt to reduce water hardness and that it needs to be filled with salt, not bleach. I explained to him that dishwasher salt regenerates the softener. He responded with “The chlorine in the bleach actually excites the internal resin beads, blasting away those calcium bonds for a fresh start, it’s basically a factory reset that they won’t tell you about because they want you to keep buying expensive salt.”
It didn’t take me too long to understand this salesman knows very little. I don’t know everything.. but pouring bleach into your dishwasher is a no no.. it CAN disinfect but it most likely will damage seals and internal components over time. It’s just not necessary for regular cleaning.
I probably wouldn’t listen to these salesmen at this Best Buy.. disappointing. They need to do better
