I am writing to address an issue I encountered with an open-box purchase made at your McAllen, TX location (700 S Jackson Rd) on Sunday, November 10, 2024. I bought an Nvidia 4080 Super graphics card, but upon installing and updating the drivers, I discovered that the card I received was actually a 4070 Ti. After further investigation, I found that the original 4080 Super serial number had been swapped onto the 4070 Ti card, which was returned by another customer on November 8.
When I spoke with Mirtha Garcia the following morning, I was informed that the graphics card showed signs of tampering, which I had suspected. She assured me that Best Buy has strict policies in place to protect both customers and the company, and confirmed that the card I received was not the one I originally purchased. I then spoke to the General Manager, Veronica Malvaez, who stated that a case would be submitted to the manufacturer but that I would have to deal directly with them. If the manufacturer rejects the claim, I would be required to keep the incorrect card.
I find this situation extremely frustrating and disappointing. I was assured that Geek Squad thoroughly inspects high-ticket returns, and this issue clearly indicates a lapse in that process. It's troubling that the tampered card was allowed to be resold, and I feel my concerns have not been fully addressed.
I am requesting a prompt resolution in accordance with Best Buy’s return policy, which guarantees a replacement for damaged, defective, or incorrect items. I would like to receive a replacement card, either the Nvidia 4080 Super, an AMD Radeon 7900 XTX, or an Nvidia 4090, as per the acceptable alternatives.
As soon as I discovered the issue, I attempted to resolve it via live chat but was met with unhelpful responses and long wait times. I’ve attached a screenshot of the conversation for your reference. The lack of clear assistance has only added to my frustration.
This entire experience has cost me time, money, and a great deal of inconvenience. I hope this matter can be resolved swiftly and professionally, and I look forward to hearing from you regarding the next steps.
