During the holiday season, my husband and I were told that if we opened a Best Buy credit card, we would receive 20% back in rewards. Based on that information, we signed up. At no point were we told, by the sales representative or in-store, that the 20% only applied to the pre-tax amount. We only learned this after noticing the rewards were lower than expected and calling Best Buy Rewards customer service. We then spent 45 minutes on the phone with customer service to get an explanation. Had this key detail been disclosed upfront, we likely would not have opened the credit card, as the promotion was not worth it to us. The sales rep was very quick to push the sign-up and payment process but did not take the time to explain important terms or ensure we fully understood what we were agreeing to. There was also no service with a smile. We felt rushed and misled rather than helped. On top of that, it took a long time for the rewards to even appear in our account. This experience lacked transparency and left a bad impression. Credit card promotions should be explained clearly and honestly.
