I recently purchased a KitchenAid dishwasher from Best Buy that was listed on the website as open box in “Excellent Condition,” meaning it should look and work like new, as described in their website. However, after picking it up and bringing it home, I discovered a large dent on the front door.
The situation was even more frustrating because I had already hired a handyman to install the dishwasher. After he removed my existing dishwasher and unwrapped the new one, we discovered the dent on the front panel. Because of this, the handyman had to reinstall my old dishwasher. I also had to pay for his time even though the installation could not be completed.
In total, I wasted almost a day dealing with this situation, including picking up the dishwasher, bringing it home, discovering the damage, and then returning to the store.
When I contacted customer service, they told me to go back to the store and speak with the manager. Unfortunately, the store manager showed little concern about the time and inconvenience this caused. I was simply told that I should have checked the dishwasher before leaving the store.
The problem is that the dishwasher was completely wrapped in plastic, and I trusted Best Buy’s description that the item was in excellent condition. As a long-time Best Buy customer who has purchased appliances and electronics over the years—including a fridge, laptop, iPad, Dyson products, and more—this experience was very disappointing.
Because of this situation, I have lost trust in the accuracy of Best Buy’s product condition descriptions and will think twice before relying on what is stated on the website again.
