I visited the Best Buy Geek Squad on 11/24/2025 for help with my iPhone 15 Pro and was quoted $329 for a repair. The rep did tell me my coverage had lapsed, but what wasn’t clear at all was why it lapsed or how the coverage was structured. Without that context, nothing clicked. Only later did I find out the full picture. What I learned afterward: • My iPhone 15 Pro AppleCare+ was bundled inside my My Best Buy Total™ membership. • My Total membership was canceled automatically after a Best Buy–initiated credit card change, not because I stopped paying. • When Total canceled, the AppleCare+ for the 15 Pro canceled with it. • Best Buy did send cancellation emails, but because I shop often and had protection plans on almost everything since 2024, they came as a flood of separate emails for random items. Nothing clearly said “Your iPhone 15 Pro AppleCare+ is ending.” At the same time, Best Buy kept charging me $13.49/month for AppleCare+—but that plan was only for my old iPhone 12, which my kids use now. So the protection I needed was gone, and the one I didn’t need kept billing. What made this worse: Even though the rep technically mentioned a lapse, it wasn’t explained in a way that connected the dots. More importantly, the reps clearly knew the situation was messy — multiple plans, a canceled membership tied to a device, and a card change that wasn’t my fault — but they did not escalate to a manager, even when I asked. Instead: • I was quoted $329 • They quietly talked among themselves • They avoided bringing anyone else over • They handed me an 888 number and sent me away I was left to figure it out myself. The customer care chat didn’t help either: I was transferred multiple times, and the final agent told me the only solution was to “call payments,” even though I already did that in September and was told nothing could be fixed. The last line I got was literally: “My advice is to just get AppleCare directly through Apple.” Not exactly the kind of support you expect after years as a Best Buy credit card holder with protection plans on nearly every device I’ve bought. And to add context: I also pay for Apple One (which includes AppleCare+ for up to 3 devices), but since my iPhone 15 Pro uses a different Apple ID, I couldn’t add it there either. Between Apple One, Best Buy Total, and separate AppleCare+ billing, the entire setup became confusing — and Best Buy’s structure made it harder to understand, not easier. Bottom line: This experience involved: • unclear communication • billing mismatches • a coverage structure that’s not explained clearly • and in-store reps who avoided escalating a situation that obviously needed a manager As a long-time Best Buy credit card customer with multiple protection plans, I expected clearer guidance and real support — not a $329 quote and a handoff.
