Globally, customer service rarely exist anymore and the staff at Best Buy in Douglasville personify the epitome of poor customer service.
When I walked in I was asked by the staff at the front door if they could "assist" me. I mentioned I was in the market for an iwatch and was promptly told to go to Apple section of the store, pick out the item I'd like to purchase, go to the front of the store, and tell the associate which item I'd like. A few things are glaring wrong with this exchange:
1. The associate asked how they could "assist" me. I guess the assistance is playing traffic cop by pointing me to where I can find the item I need. One would think they would page an associate to see if I have any questions on available models, functionality, warranties, etc. But I guess assistance is offering the bare minimum assistance to Best Buy in Douglasville.
2. Cross sale opportunity was completely missed - Apple products are often paired with additional accessories that are sold separately. If the reps at Best Buy Douglasville understood that with one item sold, potentially other items could be sold in the same instance, thus generating more revenue for the store. By leaving me, the customer, to my own devices to "go in the back and look" completely left a unsatisfying customer experience which led me to leave the store without purchasing anything. An opportunity was missed.
3. Reversed engineered shopping experience - Why is the customer doing the leg work? Pick out the item, walk to the front of the store to tell the associate that item I'd like??? ***insert eye roll emoji.***
With e-commerce shopping experiences being more convenient, I rarely go to brick-and-mortar locations for tech purchases. Today was different as I was leaving the gym and made it a point to visit my local Best Buy to make the purchase. A sale of potentially $1000 (in aggregate) was missed. I guess the associates at the Best Buy in Douglasville just enjoy working without making sales.
Oh well.
