Levi was very helpful as soon as we walked in, he helped us find everything we needed. It would’ve taken a lot longer without his help so I’m thankful for that.
I brought my desktop PC into Best Buy for diagnostic service after replacing a known-faulty motherboard that had stopped POSTing. The original board was unstable, but it still POSTed and worked with my GPU, RAM, and storage. I brought both the new board (which wasn’t showing video) and the original board with me so Geek Squad could use either during diagnostics.
I paid up front for the diagnostic and clearly requested proper component isolation and bench testing to determine if any of my hardware had failed. Instead, they simply inserted known-good parts into the system to see if it would boot — but never tested my components in a known-working environment. Based on that limited approach, they told me my GPU, RAM, and storage were all bad. That’s not how professional diagnostics are done.
When I picked up the system, I asked if they had tested any of my components outside the case or in a known-good setup — the tech admitted they hadn’t. I asked for them to retest the hardware properly or issue a refund, and both were declined, even though the core service I paid for was never completed as described.
Later, I reinstalled Windows myself using the same GPU, RAM, and storage they claimed were faulty — and everything worked flawlessly. I also followed up with Geek Squad support (call ID: 357182647), and while the rep sympathized and agreed my frustration was valid, they told me no refund was possible due to the transaction being in-store.
Bottom line: I paid for a diagnostic I didn’t receive and was misled into thinking a full evaluation had been performed. If you have any technical background or expect real troubleshooting, I'd look elsewhere.
Nice place to buy high end electronics!
