To much time when store computer not working right
I purchased an open-box 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 Pro chip for approximately $2,200, listed in “Good” condition, as a college gift for my daughter. The first unit would not charge at all. After returning it, I received a second open-box unit of the exact same model — and it had the identical MagSafe charging problem.
It is clear that Geek Squad is not properly testing these computers before placing them back on the sales floor as open-box. Selling two non-functional units of the same high-end model is unacceptable.
I then went to another Best Buy location near my home that is an authorized Apple repair provider in an attempt to resolve the issue. In total, I had to visit Best Buy three separate times for this computer and still ended up with a machine that does not work properly for the price paid. Now my daughter is the one dealing with the frustration of trying to get a functioning laptop for school.
Throughout the process, only cashiers assisted me. If someone more knowledgeable about these technical issues had been involved, the experience would have gone much more smoothly. Instead of offering to have Geek Squad diagnose or repair the unit, staff attempted to sell me a warranty/protection plan and suggested that Apple might charge a fee because the device was defective. That response felt completely inappropriate. Even if a Geek Squad repair had been offered, it would have meant additional wasted time and likely another trip to the store.
When Best Buy sells open-box MacBooks at nearly full price and labels them “Good,” customers have every right to expect a working product — not repeated defects, pushy warranty sales, and multiple unnecessary visits.
This was a very disappointing experience. I expected a discounted but functional laptop as a college gift for my daughter, not a series of defective units and wasted time.
I won't be coming back to best buy again. According to their website they price match. I found the exact tablet they are charging $299.99 for on Amazon (somebody they will price match against) for only $199.99. According to their website there isn't a maximum. They were only willing to take off $50. Not only did I waste my time driving all the way here, I wasted even more time at the store because it took 45 minutes to get somebody to help me. The manager was extremely rude and needs to work on his customer service skills🙄🙄
Just go to micro center it’s worth the drive, every Best Buy worker is just rude
