Queen squad was very helpful
This review only applies to the Best Buy Total Protection program at the Lafayette Indiana Best Buy and is just a small print warning that a given store can choose not to replace an item if it is no longer on sale, price matched etc… and may choose to instead give you store credit.
Took a laptop into the Lafayette, Indiana Best Buy Geek Squad for repair which was covered under Best Buy’s Total Protection program and was advised it would be “repaired or replaced”. Ultimately it could not be repaired, so was told to come in for a replacement. Although the store had two of the exact same laptops in stock, they would only provide me Best Buy store credit for the original purchase price, as the same model now costs more and I would have to pay the difference of around $500. Any similar spec model would also cost $500-$600 more. Their manager confirmed a refund was my only option.
Given we had no choice, we ended up with the store credit, minus the original $99 service fee and no replacement laptop as Best Buy currently has no similar spec laptop even close to what we originally paid.
I spoke to the Geek Squad Online Team and was advised providing the replacement was at the sole discretion of the local store and there was nothing they could do.
The employees were professional both in person and online, so this review just serves as a warning if you get an item on sale or price matched.

The staff seems happy to help out when you are unsure of the product compatability. It's a relief to have this expertise to guide a good purchase.
