I purchased an open-box Lenovo Legion gaming laptop from this Best Buy for roughly $2,000 on Friday. Within only a couple of days, the charger that came with the laptop stopped working.
My wife returned the defective charger to the store, and instead of replacing it with the proper charger for the laptop, they gave her an old 120W Lenovo adapter. The Legion requires a significantly higher-wattage charger, so the replacement they provided was not an adequate substitute for a gaming laptop of this caliber.
When I returned to the store to get the issue corrected, I explained that I wasn’t asking for a warranty repair—I was asking them to replace a defective component that was included with a laptop I had purchased only days earlier. Instead of simply providing or ordering the correct charger, I was repeatedly told that my Best Buy Plus membership doesn’t include warranty coverage.
I ultimately contacted Best Buy Customer Service directly, and they advised me to return to the store and have the entire laptop replaced if the store would not provide the appropriate charger.
I didn’t expect special treatment. I simply expected a ~$2,000 laptop purchased days earlier to come with a working, compatible charger, and for the store to correct the problem when the supplied charger immediately failed.
What should have been an incredibly simple customer-service issue became an unnecessarily frustrating experience. I ultimately decided it was easier to purchase the correct charger myself than continue dealing with the situation.
The young man that helped me at the Geek Squad counter couldn't have been more patient, understanding and pleasant.
Excellent as always! Great customer service.
Walked in and I thought I heard someone say “Welcome In” and by the time I turned around to see if it was someone talking to me I saw a younger girl with long brown hair in a ponytail walking to the front she then responded with “I guess not!” I didn’t even see anyone when I was walking in for a response like that from her. Woman checking me out was super nice and helpful though. I always buy stuff in store and usually come here but after that I’ll stick with online shopping.
