I’ve been a longtime Best Buy customer and Best Buy credit card holder, and I’ve generally had good experiences. My most recent visit left a very different impression.
I purchased an Apple Watch Series 11 GPS as a birthday gift for my mother. At the time of purchase I was led to believe I had 30 days to exchange it if needed. Because it was a gift and I wasn’t certain which version she preferred, that flexibility mattered. When she told me she actually wanted the cellular model, I returned within what I believed was the 30-day window to exchange it for the higher-priced version she wanted.
I was then told the policy is only 14 days (as printed on the receipt, I was told). I explained that I had been led to believe otherwise and asked to speak with a manager about an exchange (not a return for refund). The associate said he was the department manager and that the only way he could help was if I purchased a Best Buy Plus membership for $30. Without paying for membership, he said there was nothing he could do.
I was willing to spend more money to get the correct watch for my mother. Instead, the solution offered was essentially “pay us an extra $30 and we’ll make an exception.” This felt like a money grab rather than customer service, especially while my mother was standing next to me. It also undercut the trust I had as a loyal cardholder who was simply trying to correct an honest gift purchase.
I understand policies exist. What I don’t understand is being given one impression at purchase and then being told the only path to a reasonable resolution is to buy a membership. That approach doesn’t feel like it values long-term customers.

The staff make the store! The staff have never steered me wrong and they fix my electronics needs. They make my life easier which is why I use the physical store to touch, feel, and figure out how the latest tech fits into my real life! The online store fills gaps when needed but I still need real people to cut through the online garbage and massive amounts of information. Real people don't come with ad clutter, either!!
I want all shoppers and big spenders to use this store snd if you want a courteous and intelligent sales person ask for Ivan. He pronounced my name correctly which is always an indicator of someone’s mental aptitude. Well he is not only smart and knowledgeable but he has a chill demeanor. I went for a record player and I got it and the greasiest apple watch ultra 3 titanium. Thanks dood! Your boss/suoervisor/manager owes you a mega raise I can only imagine how you are boosting sales with such a businessperson mindset.
I called Best Buy Geek squad yesterday and they told me I had an appt at 8:30 am this Thursday morning. When I got there after driving 45 minutes from Bartlesville they don't open until 10 am. I waited the approx 2 hours and was helped. I tried to buy HP ink for printers but found i have to order from Hp or staples. Not a great day.

Hi Nancy,
Thank you for sharing your experience. The confusion regarding the appointment time, combined with the extended drive and wait, is certainly not the experience we aim to provide. We also recognize the frustration of not being able to purchase the printer ink you needed during your visit.
We would like the chance to follow up and ensure this is documented and addressed. Please feel free to reach out to our support teams on social media, so we can better assist you.
