One interesting thing about Best buy...
And maybe partially why they're still in business, unlike radio Shack in circuit City...
Many of the items in the store are agreed upon to be matched with amazon.com. So if you're in a hurry and don't want to wait a couple days for your shipment from Amazon, you can go to Best buy. That said, Best buy does not have everything in any given store that they have online at bestbuy.com or at amazon.com. So you really need to choose your battles here.
I generally don't love big box stores, but I like that you go buy something today if you need it.

Dylan Elias at Best Buy Gateway in Austin, Texas (store #203) provided excellent customer service. I was trying to pick a monitor that would be mainly used for productivity (clear text with lots of real estate was most important). But, I also wanted to have some reasonable floor on the usefulness of the monitor for gaming, for which it would be used only occasionally. Balancing productivity vs. reliability vs. some gaming vs. cost is a tricky proposition, and Dylan E. did a great job guiding me through the process.
