I want to warn anyone planning to shop at the Frisco, TX (El Dorado) Best Buy — especially if you ever need to return anything. What happened to me was unbelievable, and I don’t want anyone else to go through it.
I purchased a graphics card and changed my mind a few hours later because I found a newer model I preferred. I never opened the box — it was still factory sealed. When I brought it back, the employee opened it, looked it over, then took it to the back. When she returned, she told me I had to receive my refund in the form of gift cards, even though I originally paid with my credit card. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but the moment I got home, I found out the balance on those gift cards had already been drained.
When I called Best Buy, they said there was a “discrepancy” and that I needed to come back to the store. When I did, things got even worse. Suddenly, they claimed I had “switched” the graphics card — even though the box was still sealed the exact way it was when I bought it. Anyone who has ever purchased tech knows when packaging has been opened, and mine had not been.
They even showed me a video after I asked for it, and the footage didn’t show anything different from what I said happened. It didn’t show me opening the box, swapping anything, or doing anything suspicious — because I didn’t.
Yet despite that, they refused to refund me a single dollar. On top of that, they claimed the graphics card they said I “switched” it with had already been destroyed. How a store can destroy what they consider a customer’s property before the situation is resolved is beyond me. It felt careless and extremely unprofessional.
I reported everything to corporate and to the Better Business Bureau. Everyone involved had access to the video. I offered full transparency because I had nothing to hide. But even after all of that, I did not get my money back, and I did not get a product back. I left empty-handed — twice.
To be clear:
This review is ONLY about the Frisco, TX El Dorado location. I have not had these issues with other Best Buy stores. But based on this experience, I will never return to this one and I will never trust their return process again.
Holiday shoppers — please be careful. If something like this can happen over a sealed graphics card, I can only imagine what could happen during the busy season when returns are frequent and mistakes are easily brushed off.
