I've been sold 3 headsets that have died within 1-2 months of owning them. The first 1 was within 2 weeks and I was able to return and get a replacement. The 2nd died after a month and a half. I bought a different brand headset afterwords, and now the 3rd one has died after a month and a half. The headsets were also used on different computers, so it shouldn't be a power surge/short issue.
